Mr. MAtthew Z. Brown, Principal

Dear Falcon Families,

I wanted to send this message out to say hello and to thank all who have given me their best wishes and congratulations. I am so excited and honored to lead this amazing school. The Falcon Community is blessed with a deep tradition of academic excellence, championship programs, and alumni that are filled with Falcon Pride. With the support of our amazing staff, community, and parents, I am confident that our current Falcons will continue to fulfill this tradition.

I started my career at Fitch High School in 2001 and cannot imagine working anywhere else. It was this staff and community that helped me grow as a math teacher and coach into a confident instructional leader. I have been fortunate to have been guided by teachers and administrators who value critical thinking, collaboration, and a growth mindset. I am also proud of carrying on the tradition of having a ‘Mr. Brown’ be a leader of the school. My father came from Boston in 1967 and served at Fitch High School for 35 years. I would be honored if I am able to do the same.

At the start of the school year, we challenged our students to live our Vision of the Graduate. This means that, every day, we want them to be resilient individuals, innovative learners, socially aware citizens, and engaged communicators. This vision will continue to guide our instructional planning and decision-making. In addition, we asked our students to ignite Falcon Pride by getting involved. Students learn so many life lessons with extra-curriculars and I would argue that they are just as important as the classroom. Lastly, we challenged them to set and achieve high expectations. With Quarter 1 ending on November 2nd, please check in with your student to make sure they have a strong finish. Remind them to see their teachers during CTL and of the opportunity to attend Falcon Academy Afterschool Tutoring on Mondays, Wednesdays, and Thursdays in the 2100 hallway.

I am very thankful to Dr. Piazza for stepping in as our Interim Principal to start the year. With his leadership, we were able to set the tone for a great year. I have learned so much from him and am thankful that this experience has helped us to build a trusting relationship. Phil will continue to help us, over the next couple of weeks, as we find our next Assistant Principal. In addition, in the interim, Mr. Romano will assist in many of my former Assistant Principal duties, as I transition into my new role as Principal.

I truly look forward to working with all of you to ensure our students achieve great things. Please reach out to say hello, ask questions or express any concerns that you may have.

Thank you,

Matthew Z. Brown
